Getting Started

Where to begin?  Probably four years ago, my Wonderful Mother, saw something about tiny spaces  on trailers and thought I might be interested in building one...nahhh!! Then about two years ago while walking by a friend's tiny space in another friend's driveway for the fifth time I finally had the Eureka moment.  I realized what a solution a small, equally permanent and temporary, space could be for my life.  No down payment, no mortgage, no debt, probably don't even need to buy land!  Yet I could have the liberty, responsiblity, and connection of "ownership".  Moral of the story, listen to your mama!

I started planning that winter, hosting a discussion where I got many great ideas.  I'm glad to have been planning for so long.  So much has changed as I have continued to ask questions, talk to folks, receive answers. Repeat.  I certainly don't think my current design is necessarily perfect, but rather captures the evolution of the design at this point in time.  I doubt this will be the last structure I'll build, I've been wanting to build my own home since I was 5 years old.  An incredible, patient Grandfather who taught me the skills and how to use the tools, experimental skateboard ramps and several projects for Mom have allowed me to learn plenty about building.

This blog will serve as a free resource for my tribulations and triumphs on the path to being an owner builder and all content is to be used and shared through Open Source ideology.  Though I am quite sure of my skills and abilities to do almost every step of this process, I still try to remind myself to regard it as an experiment and remain receptive to changes that WILL come.
